About the speaker

Mr. Saad Shahid Anwel is a highly accomplished individual with a diverse range of experiences and expertise in the domain of entrepreneurship, robotics and machine learning. 

He graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering. During his time at HKU, Saad founded and served as the President of BREED, the university’s first and largest bio-inspired robotics organization.

Under Saad’s leadership, BREED achieved remarkable success, including obtaining the Guinness World Record for the fastest swim by a robotic fish. The organization also published various articles and presented their groundbreaking work in overseas conferences and journals, such as the prestigious MIT Deep Tech Review and was awarded the Grand Prize in the Invention category at the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers Innovation award. Saad’s commitment to research led him to be selected as a Laidlaw research scholar and granted the Arthur and Louise May Robotics Scholarship.

Saad’s passion for innovation and entrepreneurship is evident through his involvement in multiple startup ventures. He is a co-founder and currently serves as a director at Kodifly, an AI-Software company focused on spatial analytics applications for smart cities. Throughout his undergraduate years, Saad founded three companies, including an EdTech startup and a robotics company called SNAPP, which was based on the achievements of BREED.

During his undergraduate degree, Saad was a resident of St. John’s College and actively participated in extracurricular and sports activities. He is determined to continue his journey of inspiring and empowering those around him. Saad is eagerly preparing to bring his wealth of experiences to the esteemed Innovation Wing at the University of Hong Kong. His aim is to share his knowledge and insights, with a strong desire to cultivate and nurture the next generation of global leaders and innovators.
