Abstract

The realm of engineering offers boundless avenues for innovation, especially when one looks at the mundane with a new lens. Timothy’s journey from an undergraduate student at HKU to the acclaimed designer of the world’s fastest robotic fish is a story of curiosity and dedication, elements present in all young engineers.

His tale highlights the pivotal role that engineering projects play and the transformative power of hands-on projects in honing one’s skills. How does one start from only a bench-top with a small budget as a student with little project experience and end up building the World’s Fastest Robotic fish?

This talk will also cover the inspiration for cutting-edge concepts like soft-material robotics, bio-inspiration, and the vast opportunities for innovation in this engineering sphere for those technically inclined.

At its core, Timothy’s story underlines how a potent mix of curiosity, steadfast work ethic, unwavering determination, and communal spirit can pave the way towards unparalleled success in any field.
