Robotic Manipulation 101

Date:  February 26, 2025 (Wednesday)

Time: 3:00pm – 5:00pm

Venue: Makerspace A, Tam Wing Fan Innovation Wing One, HKU

What is Robot Operating System ( ROS)?

The Robot Operating System (ROS) (https://www.ros.org/) is a set of open-sourced software libraries and tools that help you build robot applications. From drivers to state-of-the-art algorithms, and with powerful developer tools, ROS has what you need for your next robotics project. ROS is de facto industrial standard for developing system for robots. It is important to everyone who wants to work in the field of robotics.

Workshop Details

In this Robotic Manipulation workshop, you will develop a program to control a robot arm for automating the object sorting task!

Why object sorting? To complete this task, the program must first recognize the object of interest in the camera view and then coordinate the robotic gripper to move over and grasp it. While seemingly simple, this challenge represents a fundamental problem in autonomous and intelligent robotic manipulation. If you’re new to this field or interested in enhancing the capabilities of robotic arms, this is a workshop you won’t want to miss
