WebGPU Workshop: Synthetic Animation & Simulation in the Browser

Date: September 22, 2025 (Monday)

Time: 5:00am – 7:00pm

Venue: Digital Learning Stuidio, Tam Wing Fan Innovation Wing

Introduction

Join us for an exciting WebGPU programming workshop at The University of Hong Kong! This intensive session will introduce you to traditional graphics programming and the power of general purpose GPU programming which powers AI neural networks. WebGPU is a work in progress standard by the W3C to enable high-performance computing on the browser through native GPU access, it is one of the major tech behind WebAI – the tech that allows running AI models in your browser. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created a dynamic and responsive particle effect graphics on a webpage.

This event is a perfect opportunity to enhance your programming skills and learn about graphics programming in the new academic year while connecting with fellow tech enthusiasts in the campus.

Date & Time

Date: 22 September, 2025 (Monday)

Time: 17:00 – 19:00

Location: Tam Wing Fan Innovation Wing, University of Hong Kong

Prerequisite: HKU students with basic programming understanding. You may bring your own laptop but make sure you have a browser that supports WebGPU, if you don’t have one, we will have computer provided to you.

What we’ll do: Use JavaScript to build webpages that display dynamic graphical content using WebGPU API. We will create synthetic 2D graphics and responsive particle simulation by writing vertex, fragment, and compute shaders.

In the meantime, we are looking for HKU students interested in joining our Google Developer Group, where you will be able to meet other like-minded students and industry professionals across the GDG community!

Limited quota, first come first served.
