Breathing in Virtual World

Projects supported by Funding Scheme for student projects/activities by Tam Wing Fan Innovation Fund and Philomathia Foundation Innovation Fund

Supervisor: Prof. Y.H. KUO (Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering)

Project information

Project descriptions

A virtual reality (VR)-based breathing exercise game with respiratory biofeedback is developed. It utilizes a CAVE system and mimics Tai Chi breathing patterns and hand movements. Motion cameras capture users’ hand positions and motions during the game. The captured breathing pattern is used for energy recovery and enemy attacks in the game.

Project innovation

This innovative approach aims to improve breathing capability and training efficacy, especially for users with lung diseases or breathing difficulties. The testing phase has received positive feedback, with participants expressing satisfaction and motivation in the immersive virtual environment.
