All workshops have limited quotas and will be offered on a first-come-first-serve basis. All HKU undergraduate students are welcome to join, with priority given to Innovation Wing members. In this workshop, you will learn techniques for creating compelling slide decks and videos, including tips for selecting the essential elements, slide deck creation and video editing. Additionally, you will be guided in creating a short video using the video editing software, OpenShot. From Concept to Impact: Developing and Writing Convincing Proposal
Designed specifically for students who are new to proposal writing, this workshop is your gateway to mastering this essential skill, which helps you transform an idea into a convincing proposal. During the session, you will understand the purpose and structure of a proposal, as well as the key elements that make a proposal stand out. With exercises and practical examples, you will learn how to articulate your ideas persuasively. You are also welcome to bring along any proposals you are working on. Grab the opportunity to enhance your proposal writing abilities. Details of the workshop are as follows

Part 1: Presentation – Mastering Proposal Writing (30 minutes)

- Importance of proposal writing
- Essential elements of a successful proposal
- Recognizing common pitfalls and implementing improvement strategies in proposals
- Methods for crafting a persuasive written pitch
Part 2: Hands-on Proposal Writing (55 minutes):
- Forming small teams and choosing a project idea from a pool of toy ideas or creating your own (5 minutes)
- Small group sessions with a toy idea: devising an engaging project title (15 minutes)
- Presentation: Volunteer groups share their project titles and receive feedback (10 minutes)
- Small group sessions with a toy idea: formulating concise project objectives (15 minutes)
- Presentation: Volunteer groups present their project objectives and receive feedback (10 minutes)
Q&A & Summary of Key Takeaways (5 minutes)
This contest allows HKU undergraduates to present their project ideas and recruit prospective teammates. The process helps to improve students’ ability to effectively advocate an idea or proposal to a large group of audience. It also provides an opportunity and flexibility for students to form their own team and grow their community of interest and passion.
By taking part in the pitching events, students can:
- recruit prospective teammates to form student interest groups;
- link up with Faculty Supervisors and Advisors;
- improve your ability to effectively advocate an idea or proposal to a large group of audience;
- receive suggestions on areas of improvement for strengthening your soft and technical skills;
- gain support from Innovation Academy and Tam Wing Fan Innovation Wing; and
- obtain a maximum of HK$100K funding support to further develop the idea.
